sealed transmission
during a recent major service, the mechanic ticked the
- 'check transmission oil' box
a few months later the transmission starts slipping, thumping etc after warming up
I ask him if he actually checked the oil - he says "but its sealed"
I take it to an 'expert' - he wants to replace transmission - $3K
- he wouldn't replace the oil
My mechanic agrees to replaces the oil - car now works perfectly
It probably never had transmission oil checked in its life
- thank you Google , (don't listen to experts)
minor plastics repairs
Most modern cars have plastic components in and around their bumper bar collision areas. Advantages of plastics over metal are many
eg. cheap, light, springs back to shape, and easier to repair
Each component is usually marked with its type.
If a broken part is made of ABS plastic, you're in luck
especially if you have a spare piece of the stuff lying around.
The trick is to buy some plumbers "cleaning solvent"
or ethyl methyl ketone if you prefer
available from all plumbing shops, even bunnings
Place small pieces of ABS into a glass jar and add some solvent.
Eventually you end up with a gooey mess.
The pieces will actually 'melt' into solution.
Apply to fracture.
Allow sufficient drying time.
Result will be a weld, just as strong as the original plastic.
Sand, prime, and paint
- easy !
- maybe 1 more coat of paint next week?
