When a local council converts an ordinary street to include 90 degree rear to kerb parking, you would think that some modifications (other than painting lines) would be required to conform with mandatory design standards , such as those applying to any parking lot. Possibly even more stringent because of the possibility of distraction by through traffic.
Such rules would apply to kerb overhang clearance or barriers for trees and other obstacles.
Welll the Standards Association of Australia doesn't seem to think so otherwise they wouldn't have a double standard which 'conveniently' excludes 'overhang requirements' from their 'on street parking' standard.
This is all very convenient for councils.
